It Don’t Come Easy

Here in Nashville we are surrounded by a wealth of talented people with creative endeavors worthy of our collective attention. While many of us might have grandiose ideas for projects, though, often times we are faced with overwhelming financial obstacles in order to accomplish them. One of our good pals, Gabe Kelly, has found himself in exactly this predicament.
Gabe is one of those bearded guy who plays in the Hog Slop String Band- a group of young hooligans we all have grown to know and love through the local old time jams and square dances. A talented songwriter, he initially moved to Nashville upon being hired as a staff writer for a publishing company on Music Row. He soon realized, though, that the music row game was no game for him and that he was going to have to step out on his own so as to fulfill his own challis of creativity.
Two years later, Gabe finds himself on the very brink of making this happen in grand fashion as he as enlisted Grammy Award winning Engineer Neal Cappellino (Alison Krauss, Joan Osborne, Brad Paisley, The Gabe Dixon Band) to engineer and produce his debut record, and recruited musicians of Ryan Adam’s backing band, The Cardinals, to provide instrumentation. A studio has been booked and the project is ready to roll.
As you can imagine, an endeavor such as this isn’t cheap and Gabe is determined to fund this project independent of any record label. To raise funds, he is utilizing the latest internet phenomenon- kickstarter.com.
What is kickstarter.com, you might ask?
In its simplest form, kickstarter is an online funding platform for creative projects around the world. Rather than soliciting standard “donations,” though, kickstarter requires a campaign organizer to set a fundraising “goal” and to offer various incentives to those who donate. Only when a fundraising goal has been reached, is the project funded.
Gabe has until March 29th, to fulfill his fundraising goal and could use your help in doing so. If the goal is not reached, no donations can be collected and the project will come to a fast halt. There are some wonderful incentives offered in exchange for your donations- to learn more visit Gabe’s campaign page here.
Consider this to be an exercise in the value of our community as this project will only happen with our help!
